Blogging and Activism
Britto’s passion for writing began at an early age, and in 2007, he started his own blog. His writing focuses on political satire and movie critiques, and he has contributed articles to various newspapers and online news portals in Bangladesh. He is a contributing writer for EArki and has published his work in the renowned daily newspaper Prothom Alo and many web news portals and magazines.
But Britto’s activism goes beyond his writing. In 2013, he played a key role in organizing the Shahbag Movement, a mass protest in Bangladesh that called for the death penalty for war criminals and an end to religious extremism. The movement is considered one of the largest mass movements in Bangladesh’s history, and Britto’s involvement put him under surveillance by a terrorist group.
Personal Life and Medical Career
Despite his public persona, Britto is known to be a private person. He enjoys watching documentaries, movies, and TV series, and has a deep appreciation for the poet Jibonanando Das and his work. Britto is the only son of his parents, with his father working in the banking sector, and his mother being a retired SP.
In addition to his activism, Britto has pursued a career in medicine. He completed his MBBS degree from SSMC and later pursued postgraduate training in nephrology from Dhaka Medical College. He has since become a nephrologist and has a private practice. Britto’s passion for practicing medicine comes from his experience battling lymphoma as a child, which strengthened his resolve to become a doctor.
Britto’s influence extends beyond his medical practice and activism. He has gained a significant following on social media, particularly on Facebook, where he regularly writes about various topics and is regarded as the first person in Bangladesh to gain Facebook celebrity status.
