Mufti Aziz ur Rehman is a scholar at one of the top Islamic institutions in Pakistan’s second largest city of Lahore. He is seventy-year-old. He has proved the proverb, “The Poacher Turned The Gamekeeper”!
Viral Video
Currently a video of him gone viral on social media. A video showing Rehman sexually abusing a seminary student. The incident sparked outrage on social media with many calling for the former JUI-F leader to be arrested. The accused was hiding in Mianwali (Pakistan) after being asked by the seminary management to leave the institution, according to the police.
Student’s statement
The student had said Rehman sexually abused him, while the cleric’s sons started blackmailing and threatening to kill him. “If justice is not done, I will commit suicide,” the survivor had said in the FIR.
Confession
Azizur Rehman has confessed he forced a student to perform sexual acts in return for a promise to let him take an exam after he was caught cheating. He trapped the student by offering to promote him in the exams, while his son threatened him against telling his ordeal to anyone. He had earlier claimed that he was drugged and denied his involvement in the leaked viral video while calling it an attempt to malign his reputation. Rehman is now in police custody. The superintendent of the madrassa, where Rehman worked, had said that the cleric had been fired after the video went viral, reports Geo News.
FIR
The police registered an FIR against Mufti Aziz ur Rehman, his sons and two other unidentified persons on 17 June 2021 after the leaked viral video showed the cleric sexually abusing his student. Furthermore, the police requested the court for a physical remand of the accused cleric. In response, the court granted permission to carry out a four-day physical remand while also ordering a DNA test and medical examination.
